what type trolling motor to buy?

I have a 16 ft center console..would like some opinions on what type trolling motor to buy..i know i want a bow mount, but just trying to get others opinions...isn't that what a forum is for anyways? i have a motor guide on my jon boat, i like it alright, but the riptide minnkota seems pretty nice. what do ya think?

Too many choices out there.<br />Well, ok, there are only a coouple of brands, but many many models and features.<br /><br />Can your main motor handle having an extra 140# up on the bow?<br />Do you need 10-20m hours of use time between charges?<br />Or is your boat extra heavy?<br />Using it in rough windy conditions?<br /><br />Then consider a 2 battery 24 voltmotor.<br /><br />Otherwise, get a 40-50# thrust 12 volt single battery motor.<br /><br />Decide which of the many features you need, and pick it out. <br /><br />I prefer the MinnKota motors. The co-pilot remote control is slicker than poop.

I just bought a Sea Pro SV1900, it is 19' 6" long. I had them install a Minn Kota Riptide 3X on it and I LOVE IT! Mine is 24V 74# thrust and it works great for my size boat. I really don't think for your boat you will need the 24V model but I do recommend the 3x steering. One nice thing, right now if you buy a riptide 3x you get a free Boga Grip from Minn Kota, it's value is $120. Hope this helps ya, good luck.

I have a minkota all terrain, totally weedless and will go through the thickest of weed. <br />Hey roscoe, have you heard of those remote control one going nuts from cb radio interference? This guy told me he was using his radio one day and saw another boat going in circle and later he found out the other boat have a remote control trolling motor.

I've got the Minn Kota Riptide w/ Auto Pilot in 24V 74lb thrust and love it. I've fished tournaments all day long and have not drained the batteries below 75%.<br /><br />Kevin
