Hi all,

I recently purchased a mcm898 305 V8 engine that was sold as complete. Before I drop this bad not in the boat I've been looking it over (tracing wires, compression checks) and I've noticed an area where it appears something once was and I hope I'm not missing anything. Can anyone help me out?16263636054846148860521851869940.jpg

That is where the dash pot is. A rod and spring design which is the choke for the carb. As the intake warmed up the spring would lift the rod and open the choke. Probably was replaced by an electric choke

Thank you, yes there is electric choke now. I have one more spot that almost appears to be where a sensor was.16263668736994447117928909316484.jpg

Those don't look like the ones that use the blue plugs

That is the correct bushing for the blue plugs (I also have them), but look at the ones in the OP's pic, not the same

Those look like mine. There's a wing-nut type insert with a hole in the middle that screws into the bushing. Apparently the idea is to unscrew a bit, let it drain until it clogs, and then replace the block in the spring
