I thought it might be interesting to know what was the first outboard owned by members on the forum. Mine, believe it or not, was a 1947 (I think) 2 1/2 horse National Pressure Cooker. I had it on a 12 foot wooden row boat.
Stalker

I still have a 1927 2 or 3hp Viking motor.
I can't find a brass water pump, or I would have it back together and using it, if it I knew it worked, that is.

Re: What was the first outboard you owned?

Mine was a 1936 Johnson Model 200, 3.3hp opposed twin. Still have it, too! It was given to me by my Dad when I was about 8.

First motor I ever bought with my own money was a 1960 Merc 400 45hp 4-banger. That one is long gone, although I still have some similar motors in the stable.

- Scott

I won a 5hp Chris Craft motor in 1952 at a centenial for the city of Petoskey, dad needed a disc so I traded it on the disc and he helped me buy my first car. We were both happy sometimes I wish I had it back--Bob

Re: What was the first outboard you owned?

Just ask Chinewalker to post a pix of "the wall" that way we can all just point to one in the pix.

Mine was a 53 5 hp Gale Buccaneer, which I sold to buy other old motors...some of which still lurk in the shop...ie. 47 Champion 1J, 41 Champion 1H, 46 Mercury Comet, 43 E-rude Sportwin, 43 E-rude Sportsman, 38 Johnson Model 110. I have a weakness for 1-cylinder eggbeaters.

A 1963 Homelite 55 4stroke 55 horse. It was followed by a 63 Merc 850, then my 69 Merc 1250 (My current main motor). I have also had a 57 Johnson 33 horse, and currently have a 57 Johnson 5.5 horse (my kicker), 56 Evinrude 15 horse, a 10 horse Wizard of unknown vintage, a 54 Goodyear Seabee 5.5 horse, and a 69 Evinrude 115 horse. I am always looking for more outboards...

mid-sixties evinrude 6, used to hang it on various rented aluminum jonboats - never, not once, failed to start. still have it somewhere in dad's garage, a little TLC no doubt she'd start right up.

A well used hand me down from my Grandfather. 1.5 Evinrude from the 1940s. Got it in the late 50s and put it on an 8' plywood pram.

1957 Evinrude 7.5hp. Sold it 8 years ago to a friend and it is still in use each summer at his cottage. Had that motor apart many times, sometimes for repairs, sometimes for fun.
