backed into a cove yesterday-had about 20 to 30 feet between us and land-- first trip for another boat and skier by us was between us and land we were swimming and boat anchored got pretty rocky-and seemed to take on a little water--next two trips by were in front of boat about 10 to 15 feet--real rocky and getting pretty pissed off was going to wave them off next trip by but the young skier went face first 20 feet from the boat could see he hit real hard so i swam over while they were trying to turn and come back he was holding onto his skis slumped over--asked him if he was ok and he said yes but you could tell it hurt--when they picked him up i asked them not to come by so close because if he swung out unexpectedly he could seriously hurt himself on the boat plus they were creating a heck of a wake and endangering the young swimmers--can you believe not even a word both mom and dad just stared at me--so i said thank you and hope he's ok and swam back to my family and friends--one of the friends said serves him right for being so close but i told him it wasn't the kid's fault his parents were so ignorant--thanks for letting me rant

Re: what were the thinking??

had the same issue with about 8 bass boats yesterday. we were sitting right outside a no wake zone and they all came out within about 30 to 50 ft and hammered it making big assed wakes. in pa you have to be at least 100 ft from an anchored, moored, drifting boats and the shore they were too close to all of them. So I contacted DCNR and they weren't happy at all and were go to go talk to the sponsors of the tournament. They told us to get pics of the boats next time so they can take care of it.

From reading here this type of behavior seems fairly common, how do you folks usually deal with this? Horn, selective middle finger, flag, what usually works the best? On our first trip out with the rental boat we didn't have many close calls, but I did see a few that got a bit close to others.

If you don't want to deal with wakes, why not sit INSIDE the "no wake" zone? Or if you're outside it, at least not right in the main channel .......

we were outside the main channel there were that many boats coming out that they were all the way out to the edges. The reason it is no wake is because there is an old road bed going under water making it about 3 ft. we were less than 20 ft from the buoys. their bows hit the buoy line and then they went they weren't even out of it yet... and this isn't the first issue with their crap. Its actually starting to drive people from that lake. The DCNR is starting to get irritated because of this. I hope that other people start calling it in. if it happens again I will have pic/video of it and will be going after them.
