What wire to rebuild wiring harness?

Hey Everyone,

I'm working on my 1972 Evinrude 65 that had a no start problem at the end of last season, now that I've torn into it I can see that most of the wiring harness has broken down from age and is most likely contributing to my problems.

I want to rebuild the harness but I'm unsure what type of wire to use. Anyone know what they used?

Re: What wire to rebuild wiring harness?

4, 10, 14, 16, 18, 20 gauge wire was used on the motor in the original wiring.
4 gauge battery cables
10 gauge was the fused accessory line
When I redo engine wiring, I pretty well use 16 gauge stranded MARINE wire for everything but the battery cables and the 10 ga. accessory line. You might go a bit stouter on the charging lines, but really it's only a 6 amp stator on those things. Good crimp connectors and heat shrink. Most of this is available at iboats
