You just finished your Dream Build, Your Wife backs you into the ramp she floats off the trailer, you're checking everything out, taking your time to make sure everything is just right.. 5mins goes by then 10... and you hear this gurgling sound, and you turn around and see... OH CARP I forgot to put the PLUG IN!!!!

I've personally found that cussing, while it may not solve many problems, sure makes you feel better.

There, I feel better.

Re: What would You Do?

Funny story, once my wife and I launched at the river, and I backed it in while she held the rope at the dock. I pulled the truck and trailer up to park it. I walked back to dock, and she said "should there be water back there"? S@#$ as I ran back to the truck, thank goodness the launch was empty! I backed it up and ripped the cable out and cranked it on the trailer like a mad-man, no harm done!!!

If anyone was watching they would have been rolling on the ground!!!:embarassed::embarassed::laugh::laugh::high5::high5:

Put in the plug and went for a boat ride!!!

Is this for real? Ouch!!! If so I'm sure you have it out of the water and started the drying process already. Time to crack a cold beer and call it a day. Chin up, tomorrow will be better. Someone once said the only true tragedy is a lesson not learned.

I'd be more worried about the OB than the boat. Honest mistake with possibly serious consequences (and probably a gas/oil mess).

I put the plug on the same key ring as the boat keys and the trailer lock to not forget. I also wrote "PLUG" on both of the transom strap levers.

Re: What would You Do?

my buddy had me tow his boat his truck was broke, launched the boat parked the truck, walked back to find the boat filling, my buddy left his plug in his truck back at home, I stood behind the boat with my thumb in the hole for half an hour, while he ran to the store, the pumps had it drained before he got back, it was busy, I had many laughs, that day, yep everyone had a chuckle, at me with my thumb in the hole

Gotta be careful in some states with that one as it's illegal to travel with the plug in.

I'm not doubting you as some of the state regs are crazy but wondering why it would be illegal? Whats the downside to driving to the ramp with them in?

Re: What would You Do?

Humans make mistakes. Humans forget, especially as we grow older. No human can promise “I will never forget XYZ” this is a promise you can’t keep. It is that simple. One day, I did dizillion things on the boat, engine and outdrive. I was dead tired by the time she was all ready to go. I radioed request for launch – I am on a dry moorage – and went to the car to get my cigars. Opening the arm rest to grab them and guess what I found? The plug. I was very blessed that day, I got to save face and put the plug in before the lift arrived, thank God. Lesson learned though… Now I treat my launch with the same respect and seriousness I treat my takeoffs. I developed a check list and I go through each item before she touches the water

Invasive Species laws. There is a chance to move bad critters from lake to lake.
