I am in the market for a new boat. Currently I have a 1995 Larson 174 sei. Great boat for my family. I love it and it is perfect for 4 people. It's our first boat.

Problem is that we usually go out with 6 people. My wife just can't stop inviting her friends. At one point we had 8, which was max for the boat. To say the least it felt like a coffin.

I am looking at 2 boats 21 footers. Main difference is one is a prop and he other is a jet.

The reason for me looking at a jet is because I have hit 4 sand bars in 1 year and have ruined 2 props. My skegg is bent and gouged to hell. The last one I hit scared the sh%# out of me because I was going full blast. My depth gauge went to 9ft to 0 in 2secs.

The thing that scares me is that the lakes I go to are loaded with weeds. But I still see a ton of jetskis running around

So I am pretty much caught between a rock and a hard place. Suffer hitting low spots or sucking in weeds?

Never owned a jet either so it would be a learning experience too.

I don't want to sound facetious, but wouldn't it just be easier to learn where the sandbars are (chart) and avoid them? I have friends that owned jetboats and vowed to never have another, but I don't have any personal history with them.

I would stick with an OB and look towards a deckboat. I like the idea of the tequila and suntan oil also! :D

Oh yes, you must do the tequila and suntan oil. It will work out great I am sure. :D
