Re: What would you pay for this truck?

2 benches? Is it a crew cab (4 door)?

I sold my '92 Chevy 1500 W/T last year for $2500

189k miles, LWB, V6 auto, 2wd, AC, PS, PB, CD
The paint and body were in very good shape though.

If it's in rough shape I wouldn't pay more than 1500 for it. A crew cab however is worth every bit of 2800. 'Round here anyway.

Re: What would you pay for this truck?

I'd take my time looking. With the gas price high truck sales are in the tank and the prices are dropping every day. A new truck I could have bought 3 months ago for 32,000 is now just 25. A 92 is pretty old now and will nickle and dime you to death.I know,I got one with a good motor and drive line but it's starting the get me on all the small things like door locks, wipers, rattles and so on. Your either making a payment or you're fixing things.

If it has 4WD and a 350, then it might be worth $2500. If not, its a $1500 truck.

Depending on the CT inspection laws..... will it pass the smog tests? See my 1995 K2500 thread http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=245640&highlight=k2500 and this is one I picked up in Feb 08 for 3K It does not have the whistles and belles but a documented engine/trans install

Big trucks are a dime a dozen lately. I bet a dealer offered him $700-$1000 due to year and mileage.

I agree with the nickel and dime statement. If it's not a 350, I wouldn't have it. Also, the moonroof???? That's a dead giveaway to me that a kid or a "wild" driver had it. If the transmission is rebuilt, I wouldn't even consider it. It has dents and such--may not have been well taken care of. The rear ends in those weren't the greatest, either. I think for 2800 it would have to be really nice and have about 50,000 fewer miles before I'd go that high. It's right there in the mileage/age that you're going to have to drop some cash into it.
Just my opinion,

Re: What would you pay for this truck?

im going tomor to test drive it hopefully.. all the info i have now is just from looking at it.. i havnt been inside.. i want to say its the 5.7 but ill make sure tomor.. idk the difference between moon roof and a sunroof.. the guy who owns it is about 30 or so.. i think he said he completely replaced the tranny.. the place where he works specializes in trannys... it has a couple small dents.. like say you were moving a 2x4 and accidently hit the side of the truck. dents small like that.. its 2wd but you can switch it to 4wheel when you need it.. not sure if all 4 open up ill check tomor..

KBB doesnt have the 92 sierra.
but NADA says 3400 but im not sure cuz it says
Sportside.
Sportside Cluh Coupe
Wideside
Wideside Club Coupe.. not sure what to pick so i did sportside

The 350 is the 5.7, not the 5.3. I know the late 90's probably has 270hp or less. In 99' or 00' it got more hp. My 04' 5.3L has 195-300hp.

I'm not positive, but there is a good chance that in 92' it was the 5.0L V8 (305 and 250hp) and not a 5.3L

I only have 2wd on my truck. I have driven both. Obviously the 4x4 is far superior in the winter, but the 2wd isnt as bad as some may make it seem. Its a personal preference.

Re: What would you pay for this truck?

For some reason they stopped making the best motor ever built in chevrolet pickups--the 350c.i v8. The replacement for the 5.7liter 350 is the 5.3Liter 327. I wouldn't think that the truck you were showing in the link was new enough for the 5.3 liter, though. As said, if it is a v8 it is most likely the 305 or the 350. You want the 350 for pulling but the 305 would probably handle it. Just not nearly as good and probably with poorer gas mileage. If it were me, I'd get the 350. A much better engine, faultless, in my opinion. Since it seems you won't be pulling the boat or yard stuff in winter, I'd think 2 wheel drive would be fine for what you need. Oddly enough, the 4wd's in the 90's don't get any worse gas mileage than the 2wd, so if you can find a 4wd, I'd get it. (I did!) I rarely use it, but it's sure nice to have when you need it.
Good luck----I love to truck shop!:)

Re: What would you pay for this truck?

Open the glovebox.... look at the build tag attached in the glovebox

Each code tells what is in the truck Look for G80 which means it has a locker rear end and look for GT3 or GT4 which tell the rear end gear ratios.

The older GM 4x4 used a vacuum shift assembly for engaging the front axle which can be replaced but gives problems in the winter when it is cold.
