what year and hp is my engine

I just bought a little tin boat with what says a 20 HP Johnson on it. Its need some parts ,impellor and rubber mounts but the name plate doesnt seem to match up

The ali tag says 20CR78C and the serial number is C8002608

It looks like this should be a 1978 engine but according to the parts lists Johnson didnt do a 20 hp in '78 ???

I know some knows what this is . Thanks

It comes up in my year and model guide as a 1978 20 hp Johnson. The guide was published by OMC.

I can't seem to cross that model number, are you sure that the number is correct?

Does the serial number tag say Made in Canada or Made in USA ?

I have checked the serial number etc again and all the info I have given is correct. I cant work out how to post a picture on here or I would try that.

The yellow label ontop of the air box says " 20HP 1978 " and in small print on the engine label it says " Outboard Marine Corporation of Canada , Peterborough. "

Does that mean this is an OMC engine like some one mentioned earlier ????

The hood says Johnson 20 Seahorse ?

I checked the iBoats listings and I still cant find a 20 hp 1978 Johnson, and man , do I need parts.

The water pump impellor came out in pieces and I had to use a blow torch to melt the huge piece of molten rubber of the old impellor off the casing.

Bottom end oil was mayonaise and the smell of burnt hydrocarbons is over whelming.

But we can rebuild him, we have the technology !

So to make things worse , the propellor looks like it was used as a roto tiller in my back yard, so I go looking for it on i Boats also.

Mine is a non thru exhaust with 13 tooth spline and it says 9 1/2 x 12 on the hub.

Again , no 1978 20 hp listed , they all end at 73 and start again 84 or near and my prop would suggest that it came off of a 25 HP machine.

What would be the correct prop here gentlemen

Im only using this for taking my kids out in the bay fishing, no skiing or tubing !!!!

Real recreation is done via my 25' tritoon with the 150 on it.

if you look back there are some old threads related to your motor. one person said it was a canadian version of a 25hp johnson. another person is selling parts on ebay for your motor. he claims the parts will fit a 25hp as well.

You have the prop specs, that's all you need.

The decals are the same as those you posted Had Water Fisherman.

And Captain Tim, yes I realsise I have the propellor specs on it but is this the correct prop for this little engine
