I'm pretty sure it was 08, if not it was 07, no earlier. Either you heard wrong or your friend was lying.

The HIN on the boat should tell you as well.

Sorry, I am not familiar with Nitro boats so I can't be of much help there.

Z series came out in '07 and the Z-8 came out in '09. Prior to that they had the 9 Series (929,901,911).

Those Z-series boats sure do look nice though. I haven't heard on how well the tournament guys like them, but I can't imagine they're much different from the Champions, Tritons, etc in terms of performance. They all have the same engines/hull designs.

Nitro used to get a bad reputation for rot and cheap fittings when they first came out, but that may have changed.

I wouldn't go that far. Either way they're still built by the Tracker Marine Group. The level of fitment isn't going to surpass a Champion, Bass Cat, or even a Ranger. Many a Marine Group boat has shown up 10-12 years down the line with rot issues. I'm "done" with the glass/bass scene now but I hope they've made serious strides in layup quality in the last 10 years. We do see some weekend warriors in Nitro's on local waters but the guys winning the tournaments don't seem to take them seriously. That being said, KVD's been sponsored by them for a long time.

That was my point, I see a lot of the bass guys not taking the Nitro guys seriously, but the z-series look just like any other bass boat brand on the surface. The fitings and quality may still be the shortfall, but who knows. The Tracker Marine Group had their issues, but the latest stuff from the late 00's may be just fine. Time will tell I suppose.

For you guys that dissing Nitro, have you rode and fished out of a Z9 before? Checked it out, you might change your mind. Don't look at a Z5 and then assume a Z9 is the same either. You can't compare a Nitro to a Bass Cat either. One is mass produced and one is almost made to order.

The quality of Nitro boats is as good as any boat on the market right now. Tracker has made huge strides in quality, fit and finish. That being said, I'll put my Z-9 up against any other comparable boat on the market. Not saying it is any better, but is just as good. Nitro has their 2010 models on the website now. Take a look at the re-designed Z-7. It's really going to turn some heads in that size boat.

They had nowhere to go but up. My fishing buddy has a 2000 (maybe '99?) 18-footer that broke some stringers in a tourney when it was still under warranty and Nitro didn't fulfill their warranty commitment. They kept the boat almost an entire season without completely repairing it, during which the warranty period expired, and then they finally returned the boat. Nitro should have just given him a new hull: they would have had a loyal customer and an evangelist for their brand. Instead they got a whole bunch of people like me who tell of their shortfall, and a guy who has bought several aluminum boats since- no more 'glass boats for him!

I personally like FG boats but even if I had the money and was in the market I probably wouldn't consider laying down cash on a Nitro. Then again, a walleye-style boat is more my speed; I have never considered buying a bass boat.
