70 hp evinrude WHAT'S THE YEAR. PROBLEM MOTOR STARTS RUNS A FEW SECONDS DIES AND IS HARD TO START DO NOT KNOW MUTCH ABOUT MOToR . I is my first boat .kind of new at this. model 70473m serial# j0004139 low spead idle adjusting screws repair book said some carbs have them some do not how do you know.

Need more info, such as, Has the Motor been sitting for a long time? Did it run OK when you got it? A little more info is needed to access your problem. May be as simple as a Carb. rebuild or it could be more involved! Let us know.

I just got the boat . I was told it was used last summer. Ido not know the guy i got the boat from.I put new fuel lines,new tank,its got good fire it well knock you to the ground .afriend of mind has a82 70hd like mind he has a ajustable air/fuel screw no the front of all 3carbs mine does not shoud they be there.

I would say it would be in your best interest to rebuild the carbs, before you go any further. Are you priming the Bulb on the fuel line? Are you choking it when yout try to start it? Raising fast Idle lever a little? Pull the plugs and see if they are wet, after you try to start it! Should be! If it ran well last summer, then I doubt it's gonna do any good to adjust the Idle screws! I would rebuild the Carbs for good measure and a new Water Pump would also be a good idea, as you don't know when it was replaced last. Let us know what you find out!

Also, be sure you are using fresh gas in the Tank!

onmy motor i do not have any adjusting screws .i was trying fo find if it sould have them.I have new gas/50+1 Ipulled carbes off they needed cleand black gue was in the bolws all passages are clear and clean. the neadle on the floot had a ring around the middlie of the rubber tip. uther than that carbes where new iast year i found areist in the paper work.the man said it started running bad after naw carbs it would not run.

Walker the first thing you should do is get a manual. It sounds like you are tinkering without a clue on what needs to get done. You may get lucky and fix it that way but most likely you will spend a lot of time and money and wind up frustrated. If you ever buy another boat I suggest that you take someone along with you who knows a bit about boats and preferably a marine mechanic.

Alright i rebuilt the carbs it runs now . now all i have to do is find uot why it starts and runs wide open as if it was at full throutal.i have done what the book has told me but it doisnt chang the idel.i just want to say thanks for your help and time.well back to the book.

You will need to check your throttle linkage and "sychronize" it. You will need a Manual to show you how to do this. Some folks on here can better explain the procedure better than I.Now that you have it running, You might want to start a new post such as "Syncronizing Carbs on 74' Evinrude 70 HP". Or do a search at the top of this page. Just type in Carb Sync or Syncronizing Carbs!

well as far as amanual i have had one . one came with the boat.Iwant to say thant you very much for the help. it runs great I had a spring on rong and the throttle cam was sticking and needed alittle wd 40. runs great now.looking foward to puting it in the water after work tomarow. thanks alot.
