What year is my 9.8 Merc?

Hi,
I have this outboard, serial number 5327402, but one website says I have to call a dealer to find it as they can only go back to 1980. I also have a 10 HP Merc kiekhaefer but one number on the ser # has rubbed off. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks, Randy.

Yes, that is a 1979 motor.

Post the numbers from your other one...might be able to identify it. Typically you'll find the serial number stamped on the block somewhere as well.
