what year is my merc?

I have a 50 hp merc outboard from the 60's (i think). It is black with red and silver stripes on the cowling and it has merc 500 shown on the front of the cowling. Numbers on the engine mount are 1440-3255 and HA2014 1-22<br /><br />On the engine itself , the following numbers and wording is stamped on the block:<br /><br />"831-3244 Full Jewelled Thunderbolt Trademarks H"<br /><br />I looked the serial numbers from the mount up on oldmercs.com and it lists it as a 1961 merc. But in the description on the website it says it should be a white color motor. ??????<br /><br />any idea what year my motor actually is?

that's the site i tried already, it didn't give me a clear answer. Also, what fuel/oil ratio would this motor need? thanks
