I just bought an old 1963 Lonestar boat to go fishing with and I'm not sure what year the motor is. It's a Mercury 1100 SS, 100hp The serial no. 1466121 if this is any help. Thanks for your time AFDan52
[*]null
[*]

Re: What year is my Mercury motor?

The records seem to be a little vague on that point, it seems like they produced 100 Hp engines from 1962 on, but the serial no. started with 15 at that time. I would guess it's either 1961 or 1962.

Don't quote me on this...but I believe Merc's 1100 was produced in 1966 & 1967. It was rated at 110 hp...not 100 hp.

Walt

1966 Merc 1100SS 110 HP per Grubb's Old Mercs... shows only one year of production.

Fone_Man...

I know the 1100 was mfg'd in 1967...are you saying Grubbs is saying it wasn't? Or was the model 1100SS only mfg'd in '66.

Walt

The Merc guide I have shows serial numbers 1464949-1768403 as 1962-63 100 hp but not SS model.

Confused? Me too.

Re: What year is my Mercury motor?

Quick question...

Was the model number gleaned from the hood or cowling or from the ID plate on the transom bracket? It's entirely possible that the original cowls were damaged/lost and a similar cowling from a 1100SS was used to replace it, or that someone replaced the clamp bracket with an earlier one. The key would be if the serial number on the clamps matches the one stamped on the block (I think it would be on the top of the block, near the rear). The model comes up as a '66, but the serial a couple years older. Something's not quite kosher in Mercville...
- Scott

Good point Chinewalker...

AFDan's original post said it was 100 hp. even though it was a model 1100SS. It does make ya wonder if the cowling's been swapped.

Walt
