What year is my motor?

I really have two quetions? The first is i'm trying to find out what year it is. Its a Sea King and the Motor has a model number- GG 9003A. And it has a serial number- 75x701481. Any ideas would be helpful. The other question is if the motor is water cooled or not. I took it apart all that i was able to, but I couldn't find a impeller. Please help!

Any idea what the horse power is? Try going to www.chryslercrew.com and email them. They might know. I dont think sea kings were strictly made by west bend and chrysler. Maybe they can help you or put you in the right direction.

I think that model number indicates that the engine was manufactured by Gale Division of OMC. Modelguide does not list Gale or Sea King engines, so I can't help you there. Paul should be along soon and he will know.<br /><br />If it is a Gale made engine it is water cooled and has two cylinders. Almost every part will be interchangable with a similar Johnson or Evinrude engine of the same period.<br /><br />PLEASE don't mess with it further until you have it identified and you have the correct Service Manual.<br /><br />Moving this to Other Outboard troubles.

JB's correct, that's a Gale number.<br />GG9003A is a 1957 5hp engine, which was based on the 5hp TD/TN series Johnsons from the very early 50s & late 40s.<br />It is water cooled. The 'Impeller' is hiding behind the propeller, under the first cover. This is not an impeller like on a modern engine, and don't wear out as bad as modern ones. So if it's still cooling the outboard fine, you can leave it alone. The downside is that they're very sensitive to sand.<br />I've got some leads on replacement impellers though, if you need one.<br />A few more peices of info:<br />Spark plugs: Champion J6C gapped at .030". <br />Fuel/Oil mix: 24:1 (use 87 octane gas and TC-W3 rated outboard oil)<br />Lower unit lube: I believe these are lubricated with Lubriplate #105 grease.<br /><br />Hope this helps!
