Re: What year is my Sea King
Well, you can always just try to start it and see what happens. But if it has sat for more than a few months, you will want to clean the carb out(Overhaul), because the gas in there has probably turned to varnish. A rebuild kit would be best, but if you can't find one then at least clean it by removing the carb and dissasemble it carefully. Spray the internal passages with "Marine" carb cleaner and blow out with compressed air. Set the float so that it is level with the bowel. Reassemble and put back on Motor! Shoot a couple spoonfuls of 2-stroke oil(TCW-3) in the cylinder and turn it over by hand about 10 times. Replace the spark plug with a new one and mix up fresh gas at a ratio of about 25:1(1 Pint to 3 Gal. Gas). You may want to make sure you have spark before you kill yourself trying to start it. Just ground the metal part of the plug, where the socket goes, to the block(Don't hold on to it) and crank it to see if the plug fires. If so, put the plug back in, hook up the gas and give it a try! if it attempts to start, you have a fighting chance. Good Luck and sorry if I'm being to detailed, but I don't know how much you know about outboards. Then again, I'm no expert!
