TD-20 is a 1946-1948 5 hp, Bearcamp. One of the great ones. :)

24:1 fuel mix, Champion J8C plugs gapped at .030" (.040" for trolling and low speed applications). Set points at .020".

Good luck. :)

I didn't see it yet, but received a call, and the guy just had it tuned up with the carb rebuilt. He says it runs great and wants 180 bucks for it. Told me the local marine shop said it was a 1977 3 hp. The whole thing is like a lite blue. He said the top looks like a helment.

If it's a TD-20, it's a 1946-1948, as JB said. Nice engine, though, even for it's age. Here's a photo of one:

A 1977 looks nothing like that. In fact, they didn't even make a 3hp that year.

And it IS a 5hp motor, too, if it's a TD-20. Some models were a light blue color, instead of the green in the photo above.

Where did you get the model number as TD-20, Bearcamp?

Could it be cobbled together from several engines and ended up with the TD-20 transom clamp?

A 3 hp would be a JW-, a JH- or a J3xxxx.
