I have a 3 HP Johnson but the number stamped on the Welch plug says something different. The number is E2813479. Thanks

That high serial # sounds consistant with a Johnson. The E does indeed mean that it was assembled at the Evinrude factory, but that is not unusual. J/E assembled each other's motors all the time. You will also find a bunch of them with a "B" which means they were assembled in Belgium.

Thanks F_R, I was able to get a model# off the engine JHF 22 C. Is that any help determining the year? Also, is the engine air cooled? Thanks

Indeed, the model would give the exact year, but unfortunatly, I don't have a list that includes that one. A JH-19 is a 1964, so counting forward, the JH-22 would be a 1967, if we can be so bold as to assume.

It would NOT be air cooled, that's for sure.

Using the same logic a JHF-23 is a 1968, so counting backwards it again becomes a 1967 so I guess that clinches it as a 1967.
J = Johnson
H = Right angle drive (not the weedles drive)
F = Folding model
