What Year Johnson?

Hey Guys,
I have an older Johnson outboard that I'm trying to find the year of. The only tag I see is on the ignition coil. Says model 5GX2-B with a serial # of 45234. The cover of the engine reads Johnson 65 electric. It's a 65 horse V-4 two stroke. Selco repair manuals told me to check on the transom mount, which I will do this morning yet and see if there are any other numbers available. The mice ate every last wire off in the engine and what's left to try and splice too is so dry rotted the sheathing flakes off and the wire inside is to corroded to splice on. What a mess. Also if anyone knows of a good online place to order a wire harness or even carries something for this, I would appreciate the tip.

Ok found this number on transom tag of motor model: VXL-14B Serial number: J2982427 Johnson Motors Waukegan IL

Ok, found out it's a 1968 and I need part number 0382558 (internal wire harness) which seem unavailable. Any site you guys know of that sell this old of stuff. This is becoming a project I see, but I'm determined to get it done right.!!!AAAHHHH

i take it you are or were an Corpsman. i also an old vietnam corpsman. i cannot find anything with those #'s. look on the block for a quarter size disc with numbers on it. freeze plug.

I found this number on the transom of the engine mount. Model VXL-14B with a serial number J2982427. I think this is what I'm looking for, but not sure where to look for the correlating year. Yes, I was Desert Storm Corpsman. Now I'm in the American Legion. Just joined a few months ago. Really nice Org. to belong to.
