Bones:

Check out this website and it will tell you everything you wanted to know about the year of various Mercurys. This 650 being a 65 HP, 4cyl, Mercury. It is a 1966, as the previous poster mentioned according to the S/N.

http://www.obparts.com/years/mercury.html

I have the same engine except it is a 1965. How's yours running? Or are you rebuilding it?

I had a 67' 650 and loved it till it seized up. Ran it for years with no problems. Sad day when she bit the bullet. Still to this day don't know why it seized up...

Bones:

Hopefully, you will be able to work on it yourself. It's tough trying to find anyone that will want to service it. I got my 1965 Merc. 650 with my boat, a 1965 Glasspar Avalon and 1965 Holsclaw trailer. Real nice package, but my friend and I have been tweaking this engine all winter long with one thing after another. So far, the timing belt hasn't been a problem. Fortunately, if you search around at least parts are still available. Good luck!

Hi Rick:

That's your worst nightmare when the engine seizes. Haven't experienced that yet and hopefully, won't, with any bit of luck

Yeah, it sucks when you really have a nice motor that has been real good to you and is in good shape. Then all of a sudden it's over. I had more compliments on that motor, because it was so clean and ran so well for an oldie. Oh well, I've moved on to bigger and newer things..
