what year model is an evinrude lark8 [in roman num] 40hp?

i have a 69 glassmaster 14ft runabout with an evinrude lark VIII 40horse,,,just wondering what the year might be dont know if its the orig motor that came with the boat,,looks really good and runs good with muffs,,hope that selectric drive stuff isnt worn out tho,,,prop has about half inch of play when you move it back and forth,,supposedly new inards there,,prop is definitely new,,patched and glassed a 20"x 30" spot where obviously the cooler would have to ride in a tiny boat ,made an insert with carpet to take in and out,put a jam in and buffed off the oxidation,resembles a martini olive,,,,,,,,,,looks like granny had in her barn kind of story or something,,its definitely been used but seems super taken care of ,,has a couple of cracks on the sides on top,,looks like somebody used it for a work table,,,,couldnt believe the original floor was that solid tho,even has orig seats and upholstery on them that still looks good kind of hard tho,,,,the back to back fold out flat ones,,just really wonder what year mod mojo i have here the guy said 66 that i got it from but he was young,,,,,might have to get a workbook on it i guess it would help me to know the year mod,,, ,i have a universal kill switch ordered off of here that i hope comes with easy dir to wire from my key switch m wires or something,alabama says kill switch it i will get some pics on soon

Well, what we really need is a model number. This will help us pinpoint the year better.

thanks ezeke,,,i got my uni kill switch i ordered from iboats ,it came in like 3 days,,i fig it would take a week or 2,,,iboats is great,,,,i have one more question,,,arent there two m wires on my key switch that i can connect my kill switch to?,,,,2 blacks or one black and one black with a line,,,it would be great if its that easy

Depends on the model, but yes, there are two M posts.

Lark VIII is a 1966. If it has the correct hood on it. That motor isn't made to run on muffs. Don't burn it up.

thanks fr,,,it ran about a minute on the muffs ,but i didnt know that would burn it up,glad you let me know,,did notice it wasnt really kicking out the water very fast,,,supposed to have new pump,,,,also,can i wire the universal kill switch to the two m wires on my key switch,,,,,if so,will it hurt anything with the key still being in the on position and the m's connected through my uni switch ,dont want to burn anything up

Again........model number will verify the year, not what is on the hood. It only takes 10 seconds to burn up a waterpump, so if you ran it for a minute, the damage may already be done. This kind of motor is best to run in a barrel, because of the water inlet set up. If your motor is infact a 66, then parts within a few years of it will work....like water pump impellers

thanx 1946zephyr,, really hope it didnt burn up,i guess the guy i got it from didnt know not to use the muffs also,when he was showing it to me,sounded like a big chainsaw,the mod no was,,40673b,,,,,ser 1911,,,so how much is a impeller kit?

The OE impellers are around $20 - $23 Part # 0777213; aftermarket Sierra 18-3083
The OE impeller repair kit is around $25 - $30 Part #0379768

Hello glassmaster68 It is nice to know someone else has an old evinrude lark VIII. I was trying to find just how rare they might be now. I will be tuning mine up and had also bought muffs for mine and after reading your post and replys they are going back. Guess it pays to read as many posts as one can.
