what year model is my 200 evinrude xp

newbie post here and thanks for this nice forum

i just purchased a 1988 model boat that has a evinrude 200XP, i have looked for a tag with a number on it but can only find a few numbers on the tilt bracket that bolts to the jack plate..where can i look to find serial and model numbers on this motor..gary

Welcome to iboats!

The important number is the model number...... it should be on a data plate on the side or front of the midsection steering portion OR look for a freeze plug on top of the motor and it may be stamped there.

These are the 1988 model number's
E200CXCCR 1988
E200STLCCM 1988
E200TXCCR 1988

thanks,soon as i get home i will look and see if i can find the number..
also i drained the lower unit,can i put regular GL5 90 gear oil in it or does it have to be a marine gear oil? thanks gary

should only use marine grade oil also id use a synthetic oil in lower unit just my .02 worth

i tried getting the number by useing paper and a crayon to transfer the number on the paper but all i could figure out was E533019GTD im not 100% sure thats the number but thats the best i could do. i looked on freeze plugs but no stamp..would this number fit any years??
