Allanb55 - that's a 1962 5hp Seaking, built by the Gale division of OMC. You probably already know this, but it's very similair to 5.5hp Johnny/Rudes of the same era.

Excellent Outboard ID Site

Oh, I can explain that a bit. Since your original posting was in the Johnny/Rude section, I just assumed.
The Gale division of OMC manufactured outboards for a number of retail clients like Mongomery Wards (Sea King), Eaton's up here (Viking outboards), even Goodyear (Sea Bee). OMC, or the Outboard Marine Corp, had a number of division including Johnson, Evinrude, Lawn-Boy, and others.
So OMC used the same basic parts in building Gale outboards as they did in the Johnson and Evinrude lines. The 5hp Gale is equivalent to a 5.5hp Johnson/Evinrude. So parts that fit the 5.5hp also fit your 5hp Gale, and parts are abundant for the 5.5hp. If you can't get them from your local Bombardier dealer, Iboats carries a number of aftermarket parts as does NAPA.
The specs are also the same:
Fuel/Oil Mix: 24:1 87 octane gas to TCW-3 outboard oil. (And stick with it, you have plain bearings in that engine)
Plug: Champion J6C (was J6J) gapped at .030"
WOT RPMS: 4000
Displacement: 8.84CID

I hope this answers your questions!

yes it does and thanks again for the info, Just one other thing. I know that a service manual says a thousand words, but when on a budget sometimes just does not work. So here is my question, i tried to pull the bottom end off to inspect the water pump and impeler, bit i see knowere that the shift linkage comes apart so you can slide it off. My Johnson has a slot in the side where the two are connected but this one does not any ideas? Allan

For this engine it's a bit of a pain in the neck. You must remove the powerhead to access the shift shaft connector directly below it. It's not really that difficult a task, but you need to buy or make a new powerhead base gasket. NAPA or Iboats part number 18-2901 should be the correct gasket, or Bombardier PN 313065, which looks like this:

But if you have some gasket material around and a couple punches, it's easy to make a new one by tracing the old.
The lower crank seal comes off with the lower unit. Try to note which order the parts are in when you remove it.
If your looking to save a couple bucks on the service manual, check out your local public library. Whenever I work on an outboard that I don't have the time or money to get the manual for, I just head there with a notepad and pen.

Re: What year of SEAKING

Hey Paul, thaks for the simple instructions it was very easy, and called my local napa and they got me the gasket, One more question. The impeller looks really good it is flexible and all the fins are there makeing good contact with it's housing. Do I need to replace it just because I am there or not? I was told by the previous owner that this was what was wrong but it does not apear so. Thanks again Allan

If you took the impeller out and all it's fins stuck out straight like a star, then I'd say to put it back in. If they're bent over at all, the pump is not working efficiently. This picture was put up by Iboats member Droll (thanks!):

The one on the left is very worn out, the one one the right is brand new. They are not the same impeller though!
A new impeller is around $10. Unless it were brand new, I would replace it if I were looking at it.
