I just bought a 10 hp evinrude. serial is 1001411826 best I can make out.
What year was it made?

We will need the model number. Some dealers will be able to give you a year from the serial number.

1957 Evinrude Sportwin 10hp. The 10014 part is the model number.

24:1 TCW-3 outboard oil to 87 octane gas.

So let me rephrase that, a dealer or Mr Beaton could give you the year from that serial number!

Anything special I need to know about this motor? Was it a dependable model? I have a 60's something model 9.9 Johnson that is terrific.

I bought the motor a 14 ft chanoe and a trailor today for 400.00
Think I may have gotten a bargain. Gas is too high to run my 90 merc.. lol

Good motors. Its one of my favourites.

You need to check the coils. If they are original they need to be replaced. Keep and eye on the lower unit oil. The seals are probably bad. You need a new impeller. Send me a PM with your email address and I'll email you a copy of the parts manual for a 1957 Johnson, which is mechanically the same as your motor.

The 10 hp was replaced by the 9.5 hp in 1964, which was then replaced by the 9.9 hp in 1974.
