Could the " 89 " on the VRO be the year when the pump was manufactured?

Since the motor is a 1989 I'm not sure if this pump is the original or not. While the pump is still fine at idle and WOT, I have very small leak around the cables that go in the pump. I constantly clean the oil hose around the pump and a week later there's a light oil film on the hose. I thought about changing the pump since i'm afraid that one of the seals might be leaking by.

the "VRO" pump has been upgraded over the years. If your pump is original, it will have a brown fuel outlet fitting showing that it is the VRO II style. The latest design pump has replaceable fittings that are held in place with stainless steel oval retainers and 2 screws.
