Sorry if my questions seem a bit remedial.

Looking at a 1980 Ranger with a 1980 Johnson 6 cyl motor. My marine maechanic says stay away from the Johnson 'force' series as they are build cheaply and his shop won't even repair them anymore. The motor does not say 'force' on the cover just 150 hp Johnson 6 cyl.

Get a new marine wrench, VikingFan.

If he thinks Johnson built the Force engines I don't want him toying with my outboard.

On the other hand, he may have said stay away from Force engines made by Mercury and you misunderstood him.

The 1980 Johnson 150 was a very good engine.

what an insult to Johnson, you definately need to apoligize to Johnson. if thats what the mech said, i agree you need a new wrench. force was 1st built by US Marine, and bought by mercury. trash motors for the most part.

Yeah I called a different Marine Dealership and they cleared that up. I told the previous guy that it was a Johnson motor and he told me to stay away from the 'Force' series of that manufacturer so I guess I will be staying away from him!
