What years were mariners made with Yamaha powerheads?

I'm looking into an 40hp Mariner outboard that a good guy says is an 89 mariner. He says he thinks it's the year they used the Yamaha powerhead. Anyone know when they were no longer produced with the Yamaha head?
Thanks!

Will do. The motor is 4 hrs away so I'm requesting pictures, model and serial numbers. Says the compression is 120 on both cylinders.

My brother had a 60 mariner years ago and I distinctly remember looking at the powerhead and it had made in japan stamped on the block.look at this also it may or may not help.pay attention to post 6 and 8 .http://www.thehulltruth.com/boating-...ly-yamaha.html I also believe the 60 had the Yamaha tuning fork logo cast into the block.I remember at the time being very surprised that mariner was Yamaha made at the time.
