I have a 3.0L Mercruiser I/O which, from what i have read, is a generally loud engine. I was wondering if there was anything i could do to lessen the compartment noise. I know i could use dynomat, but it is heavy and expensive. Is there any other material i could use so i can actually hear people on the boat without them having to scream?

There is an interesting solution on the BOC forum under Owners List > 192 Discovery > Page 12 (I would insert the link but have been informed that cross-posting is a no-no). :) That entire thread is most informative.

Proline uses an "Egg-crate" foam, which helps, but "Sound Down" is the best. And if you really want to quiet her down, get the kind with the lead layer in it...

Agree, Sound Down is the best we have ever used, easy to install. Something we used on an old commercial fishing boat with little cost was blue board from the local building supply store.
