I assume that is is syncronizing all the carbs so they operate identically.

And in proper conjunction with the spark advance. It's actually called the "Sync & Link". It simply means all the linkages are syncronized properly.

Thanks Dhadley, I'm waiting on the repair manual to come in and I'm new to Evinrudes. I got a feeling I'll be asking alot of questions.

Re: Whats a

Speaking of lots of questions - can I tag one onto this thread?

I am hoping to S&L my twin '89 120 Loopers tomorrow (Sat), as suggested by dh in another thread.

Are there any tricks to inspecting the carb while doing the s&l? I almost feel I should be servicing the carb since I will be in there anyway, but short on time.

The engines run well, although I have recently noticed my WOT rpm dropped from 5700 to 5300 on both engines. I suspect that might be a fuel filter issue, but not sure yet. They do cough and smoke a bit at cold start-up, but run smoothly once warmed up.

I have no idea when the carbs were last rebuilt. Am I wasting time by not rebuilding them b4, doing a S&L?

Thanks.

Re: Whats a

If you even suspect a carb or fuel problem it makes sense to rebuild carbs prior to link & sync. You'll just have to do it again later should the carbs turn out to be the culprit. When it comes to troubleshooting, doing the easy and inexpensive stuff first is certainly ok. However, doing a bunch of easy and simple stuff "hoping" that's the problem can be a waste of time and effort. Rebuilding carbs is never a waste since it controls the life blood of the engine (fuel and air).

Silver - good advice. I did not get to do the full S&L over the weekend, but did get things adjusted enough to solve my fast idle rpm issue.

I will replace fuel filters, if dropped wot rpm issue still exists, I will do the carbs as you suggest, then do the full S&L procedure.
