The saying is starting to sound truer and truer.
The two happiest days in a boat owners life is when he buys it and when he sells it.

This is my first boat and I dont really know whats all supposed to be on a trailer.

First pic are the boards the boat sits on. Im not sure if the are supposed to be horizontal or at a slight angle although most of the wear is on top.(As if the boards were horizontal cause my dad moved them before i could see)

How would i go about raising the boat a little more. I noticed it sat on the fender. If y'all need more pics i can get'em.

Thanks in advance for all the help.:)

Good thing there's a preview button. haha

Welcome aboard jonboat!

Trailer looks like it's all there to me for what it is being used for. On a flat bottom jon there are no need for any rollers.

Looks like it could use some maintenance though. New carpet on the bunks, new lights and then run the wires through the trailer tubes to the back. Those bunks can be raised and they should be flat, not tilted. How is the wood on those bunks? Solid, soft?

Looks like a solid little trailer. A little paint, new carpet and lights and it would look like new!

+1 what bonz d said,

might i add get some new tires too
i also see your missing the right side fender not tottaly a huge deal but you will look better in the parking lot.
also i cant see very well your first picture the bracket that holds your bunk boards on the right side proper seems a little rusty might need replacing.

the brackets that hold your bunk boards appears they can be raised 1-2 inches that would stop your rubbing on the fender issue.

i can not see the toung of the trailer but if you have rope on your crank handle TAKE IT OFF!!!!! replace with a strap because that rope will break. then you will tie a knot and it will break again and next thing you know you have a 20 foot rope that is 10 foot and 30 knots in it.

Just adding to bonz_d's list.

The first thing I noticed was the nearly flat tire, and the rims aren't looking too sporty either, 2 new tires and rims. I'd also go with 2 new hubs and bearings.

Wire brush all the rust off and spray with Cold-Gal (including welds).

Is that a Hugh Jass hole in the front bunk support on the left side in the first pic? If so, replace it.

Recarpet the sidearms in the second pic (don't want to gouge your boat on those!)

That's all I can see for now, I'm someone else will find something.

Thanks for the replies.

The trailer and boat were siting for six years under some trees. The wheels and tires are done. The one that looks flat, its rim is all kinds of rusted.

Bunk boards are solid just need new carpet.

The fender i took off so i could have more room to cut off the u-bolts. Darn things were so rusted one broke moving the trailer 500 yards to my
dads land.

Side arms "had" boards with carpet. When i touched one it just fell off.
This trailer ad boat just need a little love...or maybe alot.haha

Thanks again and this is a really cool site.

Still have to think you've got a solid little trailer there that a few bucks and a weekends work will turn it into a very nice solid trailer.

Well turns out apon further inspection the board mounts are absolutly unusable. So im going to measure where the boat will sit above
the fender and weld on some stainless steel angle iron. then just bolt the boards on.

I couldnt get to do anything yesterday my dads big rig had axle bearing issues.

New one at Walmart, $25.00. Just consider it in the price of boating. A new trailer, even a used one will cost much more than what the costs of repairing the one one you have will be. Even the cost of new bunk brackets are well under $10.00 a pair.

And new wheels. New tires. And maybe new bunk guide and mounting hardware. Also maybe new left leaf springs? Looks like the right side has been replaced recently.

I was gonna say to check the springs. Even on a light rig like yours, they make a mess when they break en route.

Before buying hubs check the square tubing on the axle for stress cracks where the spindles are welded in. If it's pretty bad, or if the spindles are in rough shape it may be cheaper to buy a complete new axle, they aren't too spendy.

The axle looked fine and all. Thanks for the replies.

I painted the whole trailer made my own bunk supports to raise the boat off the fender.
All in all its starting to come together.
