What's best for lubing crankcase & cylinders on motor that's been sitting?

Hey Everybody,

I have a '72 Johnson 85hp that I've been working on for a year, and I have no idea how long it has been since it ran...probably many years. The flywheel turns easily by hand and I don't want that to change before I get it started.

While I've got the reed valves off I want to lube the bearings, and as much of the cylinder as I can.
I'm gonna do the same inside the combustion chamber when I pull the spark plugs.

So I've put 2 cycle oil in an empty windex bottle, but even when I turn the nozzle to spray it still squirts the oil in a stream. I have found it difficult to evenly lube anything this way.

I have thought about using fogging oil, I don't think that's the best lube for this but it will be better than nothing.
However it sprays out in a foamy stream...still not that easy.

Q: Does anybody know of a good lube oil in a spray can that sprays out in a mist?...like the way spraypaint does.
That would be ideal.
I've been looking for this but can't exactly find it. I want to lube it before I crank it over again.

Thanks!

I use fogging oil. the important thing is to coat the metal which has been siting. fogging oil does a good job of coating. 2 stroke oil in a spray botle seems too dificult to atomise. Any oil will work in protecting those parts when moving them by hand.

Ok, I've got it all back together.
I'm gonna try cranking it over tomorrow.

So, first I am going to spray fogging oil into the cylinders and try turning the flywheel by hand to spread the oil around.
After I do that how long should I wait before trying to start it.

I guess what I'm asking is since I'm gonna spray a lot in there due to lack of lubrication, how long will the excess oil take to seep out until it will start without major problems due to excessive oil?

Wait one day and try it. The worst that can happen is you'll foul a plug or two.

That worked well,
Thank You.

The starter that I had rebuilt is worthless, but that is another thread.
