I have a humminbird wide 100 depth finder that i just use for checking the depth of water im in,ive got another 1 i use for finding fish. Question would it be better to mount the transducer in the boat or on the transom? Its on the transon now and it works great til you hit about 20 mphand it wont give a reading at all.Im just looking for the best location that will give a depth reading all the time if thats possible. Thanks

If you are concerned about running aground, mount it on the transom. It will be less senstive mounted inside to the hull. Yes it will work, but there are no garaunties that the spot you pick will be the best spot either. Now you're stuck with a 'ducer epoxied in the wrong spot!

If you have a fiberglass boat you can move the transducer inside the boat. Befor you epoxy it down go out to the lake and find a spot inside the boat that you think that the bottom of the boat is one layer. weight the transducer down with a sand bag and let water cover it. the sound waves can't pass throught air. you can read about it on www.humminbird.com

Thanks guys, i believe if do a little angle adjusting while im out on the water that may help me to get a depth reading at over 20 mph. 1 thing i hate is going down the lake around 20 or 30 mph and the depth finder will quit reading the depth, especially in virgin waters.
