Looking for honest opinions here....

Trying to sell my old outboard, and going to repower with something newer and probably a 4 stroke. I understand NADA values this motor around $250 or so. Which I find to be EXTREMELY cheap for a smooth running, perfectly idling and strong outboard that also comes with throttle and stainless prop. Everything works.

What should be a good goal to sell those outboard? I know the paint is not in good shape, but there are some new parts on it, and its fairly clean (the actual motor) and runs great. I think someone is getting a good deal for around $600 or so. Here are some pics.

Myself, if the motor was still reliable and in good shape, I'd keep it for a spare. I'd think 600 would be more than reasonable and if you put in your ad that you will take them out in the boat and let them run it, I bet you would get the 600 quick. I would think that without a test run, it would be a hard sell considering the outside appearance. that NADA book for old stuff is worthless, in my opinion.
Good luck,

Re: Whats it worth

I kept the motor on the boat for that very reason, to show a potential buyer that it runs strong and smooth and fires right up.

Yes the paint isn't in too good of shape, but the actual motor and the mechanics itself is in great shape, its actually quite clean if you look at the pictures.

The motor is old...its a 1983 115HP

Yes its been in saltwater.

the salt water hurts the value, compared to a fresh water motor. also watching ebay and craigslist, the bigger motors are not drawing what they were. they are bringing about the same as a 50hp, these days. if you get a $900 offer for it. i would take it. you have a lot of competition is south FL.

These 83' 115HP Evinrudes...were these crossflow motors or looper motors? Crossflow meaning the way it cools itself? Or the fuel flow? Thanks

Re: Whats it worth

Its a crossflow and the term has to do with the fuel delivery, not cooling

Thank you, it makes sense now. The Loopers were not created until the mid 90's if I've read correctly I believe.
