Hi all
I have a Johnson Colt outboard and there is a thick rubber washer halfway up the shaft... I think at some time this must have been replaced with the wrong sized washer... It needs to be replaced as the outboard is difficult to manouver when in the water....Does anyone understand what I'm babbling on about??? Is there a special name for this washer and if poosible does anyone know the best place to locate one??
Many thanks
Steve

the shafts have a o-ring that fit in a groove at the top of the shaft close to the splines to dampen vibration but other than that i don't know what shaft you are talking about, are you talking internal motor or transon mount? there is a rubber seal that goes on the water tube to seal the pump.

Re: Whats my part called??

Steve.... I think you're speaking of the tension components that exist at the center portion of the exhaust housing, lower portion of the swivel bracket, not the shaft (driveshaft).

If so, that has an adjustment screw/bolt on the lower forward portion portion of the swivel bracket.

I can supply you with a scanned diagram out of the parts manual if necessary. See my email address below. (JCOESE = 1990 Colt)
