Hi, I got the motor in the basement on a stand. At some point I will want to begin testing etc.. Since my harness is obviously in the boat, what do I need to do to run the engine just for testing? Jump the Kill line, and neutral safety...I have no idea really.

It really depends on what motor you are talking about here? I assume you dont actually want to RUN it in the basement right? If you do you have a heck of a forgiving wife, lol. I made a stand up with a built in key switch, solenoid, and a buss panel for rigging up all the pertinent wiring depending on motor. A battery box is located at the bottom of the pic which you cannot see. Cut up an old pair of jumper cables for quick connections.

Haha on the wife! Its an open basement and I can air out no problem. But time will tell on that one!I got a good draining tank also. I got two actually, 1995 88spl and Johnson 115 1984. Suppose i can find an old matching RED plug and do a similar setup, mounting things on the stand. I wasnt sure what was actually needed however.

You're going to need a pretty hefty stand to run those motors on, so they don't come loose from ya and take out a wall. Myself, I think it would be better to leave it on the boat. That stand that HighTrim has is awesome. I should have one of those myself. For a big motor like you have though, you'll need a larger one though. Those motors are close to 200 pounds.

Agreed, The 115 is over 300lbs, and on a very hefty stand already. Just checked compatibility on an old harness I have laying around--should be able to use it on both motors I believe...If so, will solve my probs. It is already wired to a key switch, Kill switch. Just have to double check all the connections to see if they are wired correctly.

Yeah I would by no means lug one of those monster down into my basement, nor would I fire it in my house on the stand!

But that is just me, I value my marriage.
