Well guys I put the ole Bayliner in the water today after the de-carb. I still have my half-throttle miss.

I don't know where to go next. Done everything but replace the igniton system and tear the motor down.
Neither are plesant options.

One mechanic thinks it's in the trigger, but the miss dosen't show up in a timming light. Any thoughts?
Carbs wern't rebuilt just thorougly cleaned, should I put kits in them before I do anything drastic like tearing the motor down?
I'm so frustrated right now with this engine, ready to pull the plug and sink her make her a fish attractor.

Re: What's next

The trigger is a good candidate and it only requires removing the flywheel to inspect it. It's not unusual that wires insulation get rubbed off in the trigger assembly as it moves with the throttle to advance sparks.

Re: What's next

Yea, a couple of months ago I checked it and found a red trigger wire going to no. 2 cyl rubbed almost into. I removed trigger, soldered and covered back up with liquid electrical tape. Could it have shorted out the trigger? And why if the problem is electrical would it not show up in a timming light?

Should I go back and check trigger wires again? I also ran a DV test on all elictrical parts a few months ago, and everything was within factory specs. The motor is throwing heavy blue almost white spark. Almost put me in the water the other day, didn't feel to good. Needless to say, I'm now looking for plastic wire pullers. Ouch....lol.
Thanks jiggz.

Someone;) once told me that, when my motor did a little shutter like thing, mid throttle, something like a miss, it,s the nature of the beast. All other running is quite impressive. I just stay below or power past the miss/shutter. It's a speed I don't use anyway.

Re: What's next

I do not recommend liquid electrical tape as this is the least that provides insulation. Actually even a PVC electrical tape will do better than liquid elect tape. The best method is to give it two layers of electrical tape and then heat shrink wrap it. Don't try to re-attach that loose connector, get a new one and crimp or solder it and then heat shrink it. We're talking nickels and dimes on this one.

I found another terminal end bad..... soldered and heat shrink back together. Can't do anything about liquid tape on red wire to close to trigger to mess with but it was soldered. I thought I checked all of em..... pays to double check things or triple check...

Motor will scream siting at the dock with no load. And I'm one of them if it sits in my yard it's gonna run right or else. Half throttle may have to work this upcomning fall/winter fishing season. I just want be chasing stripers all over the lake. I'd like to get it running right, I like to go fast.....lol
