Just filled up the outboard tank and went out for a "Pleasure cruse" with the wife and kid.
Get out on the open water running about 30-35 having a good time, then I hear a "clunk" almost like a pop. Thinking the motor is just a little cold and backfiring (that's what it sounded like) I hammered it down to "Clear it out".
The motor starts running a little strange and surging. The it pops again and idles to a stop! 300 feet from anything to grab a hold of, we are just floating like a cork.
The motor would not start. I reached back and tried to squeeze the primer ball and it was collapsed. I then thought, "Mmm did I open the vent"? I turned the vent cap and the steel tank popped 3 times as it returned to normal size! I guess I got side tracked at the dock with a 2 year old and having to bring every possible toy and whatnot aboard!
I guess I have a good fuel pump!
There is a mistake I will never make again! What an idiot!
