If the motor you end up with has a tilt tube like this http://www.inkbox.net/whaler/parts/steering-arm.jpg then you can add steering pretty simply. Here's a complete set up for $111 including a wheel http://www.lowcostboatingstore.com/...e-9-ft-to-20-ft-with-STEERING-WHEEL_p_19.html If your motor does not have a tilt tube, you will need to bolt one of these attachment points to your transom http://www.iboats.com/Corrosion-Res...5764940--**********.784207415--view_id.192758

Re: sterring 58 dorsett

consider safety--just like it can be dangerous to go too slow on the interstate, it can be dangerous to boat with an underpowered boat. A 16' with 750 # gear needs some push if you have current or wind. You may need to cross a busy channel or get out of the way of another boat (including a sailboat; I hear they can be quite aggressive!).
I wouldn't put less than a 20 on it; you don't have to use it all, but you and especially your bored passengers will appreciate your having it. And rigging up steering on a dinky motor may be challenging. Obviously I'm assuming you don't have a size restriction where you will use it.
