ARGGHH.. So frustrating.

Currently my boats an hour away in a wet slip. So I usually try get a few people to look at it on the same day.. Thus far here is what happens.

Craigslist Ad. :(

We set time
We arrive.
I undock it, then let them drive for a few minutes.
Then we redock it.
and discuss price.

The 5 people so far have offered me less than half ($4200 is asking.. and $2000 is the usual) with claims of "I only have $2k.." Talk about blood boiling!

I know its become a cultural thing to buy more than you can afford but why even come look ?

Part vent/part request for info.

I was thinking of bringing it to my house and just running it on muffs if anyones interested.

Thoughts?

I wouldn't buy a boat without a sea trial.

Anyone serious, and with enough money, is probably going to want a sea trial.

Maybe you can run it on muffs for potential time wasters, and if someone is serious they can arrange a second visit for a true sea trial.

Did you think about contacting the marina for a consignment sale? Bump u pthe price, let them deal with all the "time wasters" and collect your check minus commision. (Hence the price bump):D

My BIL did that with his boat. Actually made a few bucks more than he was going to list it for in the paper.

Sounds like maybe your boat is only worth $2000. Just because you're asking $4200 doesn't make it automatically worth anything more. When I look at a boat, I'm always prepared to pay the asking price if it's a fair price. If it's not, I'll offer what it's worth to me based on similar boats I've looked at.

Do you have a link to your ad, I'm always in the market for good boats under $5K.

I was thinking the same... If you have 5 out of 5 people offering $2k, and you are asking 4200, you probably ARE over priced. $2k is probably low, but $3k might be closer to reasonable.

For some reason people always think their boats are worth vastly more than they actually are.

Or he had 5 guys like me who don't want to pay asking price lowball him because they have seen it for sale for awhile.

Unless I get what I absolutely want, I always negotiate. You probabally just have a bunch of guys throwing offers out just to throw them out. Yeah, you might be priced a little high, but ask the marina, what they would expect out of it on consignment. They should be able to adequately price the boat for you.

I understand your frustration driving to show the boat, but ultimately, that isn't your buyers problem. I think your frustrations might be leading you to sell on consignment. It would be easier for you and save you in costs... You've spent how much in gas driving up to just show it now?

Rule No. 1: always take the first offer.

You have found that the market value for your boat is $2,000--unless that was just their first offer and you didn't counter. If the buyers know what they are doing, they set a false middle of $3,100 with the $2000 offer--that is your price if it isn't $2000.

For grins, tell us your specs and location. You will get some curbstone opinions about your price.

I would love to see the add too...
That's the only way we can truely give you our opinion, but with that said, most of us still won't know what the market is like where you are selling it at! We can only give you opinions based on the market where we are from.

You might consider adding the information that most people will be wondering about:
Year of boat
Manufacture of boat
Engine type/model
Outdrive type/model

What I see in the picture is a boat with a nice tower on it, but the gelcoat looks terrible (might want to clean it up and wax it).

If it has a Merc 470 and the gel coat looks like that.....$2k is about all you're gonna get.

One more thought. Listing all of the things you have replaced recently is not neccessarily a selling point. To a lot of folks it just means that the boat is wore out.

my thoughts too.

the part about new alternator and no stator screams 470 RUN FROM THIS BOAT

if it is a 470 and you turned down 5 $2000 offers then...............
