Does this cover really have the quality of a 650 dollar cover? Or is that just a marketing ploy? I was thinking about building my own cover, but for that price I might have to buy it.

semi-custom means designed to fit over 100 different boats, not guaranteed to fit perfectly. if you want a perfect fit it has to be custom.
