It holds up fine...but it doesn't penetrate worth a darn. Do a sample test and cut it up, then decide if you want to use it.

This is the scoop,Theres a very old building some people are working on and the rafters are rotten and has termite damage,this is a 3 story building,in the past a contractor went in and put steel plates around the rafters,since then all the wood inbetween has disengrated,so there thinking about going in and drilling holes in the good part of the rafters and fillin in with stuff.It already has dropped a !" or 2.I told them this was going to be the weakest link,so how do ya'll think this will hold up?This thread may be moved but i want to know from ya'll here because you in the building restoreing know this product best.and have used it.thanks for all your help.<br /> I need to visit here more often!Thanks Bill

I used it on my fater in laws ski barge transom it was flexing pretty bad. the git rot made his transom SOLID again but that stuff is EXPENSIVE

I tried git rot on several test pieces of rotten wood off a 21' wood boat. The pieces were 1" thick x 4" wide each and so rotted they were falling apart (read that as VERY porous). After all was done I cut them up to see how well the git rot did. It penetrated MAYBE 1/8" around the drilled holes and surface. Basically the only part that held resin was the holes. <br /><br />Because the first batch didn't penetrate well I thinned Git Rot and tried it that way. Yes it penetrated better but the resin was so weak from thinning it didn't help anything in the structural sense.<br /><br />If people did test samples and saw the results they wouldn't use it on anything structural. It's just sounds better than it is.

I used git rot a couple years ago on my boat. I just wanted a temp fix to be able to run the boat a couple more weekends. I have a 19 ft Arabian with a 330hp V-drive. ALL the eng/V-drive mounting bolts were stripped out and rotted. I dried all the holes and cleaned them out. It seemed to suck up a lot of it, I used 4 packages of the get rot and it took a couple days. But now almost two years later the mounts are still tight and nothing moves at all. I still plan on replacing the stringers when I get time. But the stuff worked for me. I seem to recall it had a specific temp range to work.

The penetrating epoxy from West Systems is better IMO. It's expensive too.
