This is in regards to my post on tilt n trim on my 1993 88 SPL.
Having bought a electrical meter, I ascertained I'm getting roughly 12 volts to both relays, and 12 volts to the blue & green wires going to the trim motor.
Trim motor not working or moving or making any noise.

I proceeded to take the trim motor off, and I'm stuck on getting the cylinder pin out. I can punch it to the left, punch it to the right, but it wont budge past the exterior of the bracket.

I'm using a 3/8 extension to drive the pin out.
I've filed the edges of the pin smooth so it will travel past the bracket edge.

I'm afraid to use heat on it.....

Take it to a professional or what?

Thanks in advance fer the help

Triggerr

Tiggerr....did you connect the blue and green wire to the motor directly up to a battery?

Have you got the retainer rings off the pins? If so, sometimes ya' gotta smack'm pretty good to get them out. We are talking about the upper pin aren't we?

EDIT: If you have the motor all the way up being supported, try letting some of the pressure off the pin by dropping the engine a little bit.

Re: Whats the secret????

Do what OBJ said first. My trim motor was going down but not up when I connected the leads directly to a batery. Pulled the cap off the top of the trim motor and the wire had broke in half. Hope this helps.

OBJ,

Yup, connected the blue & green leads individualy to a 12 Volt battery, no go on the motor. It tried to move, made a noise, then nothing.

Yes, the retainer rings are off. I guess its just being stubborn.

Yup, I let some pressure off the pin, its just in there real tight.

I guess I'll just keep smakcking it till it loosens up and goes thru the bracket.

Is there a secret tool or technique used for this pin?????

Thnaks for the suggestions, you guys are great.

Triggerr

Trigger use a sawzall and cut the pin on both sides of the tilt pin, just support the motor, it is soft. Then drive it out from the inside. New pin is avaliable from johnson.

Pretty common prob
