Trying to remove lower unit on a 60 degree 90HP SPL. I have removed the spring clip and pushed the throttle forward (and backward) but cannot get the rod to come loose from the hole it sits in. How does that darn thing come out. I'm assuming the whole rod comes out when the lower unit is removed.

throttle must be in forward position. you have to maintain a fair pressure inward on the shaft. Reach in under the engine pan and pull the lever off of the pin its resting on (pull towards you). I use a welding rod with a hook bent in one end.

After you remove the spring clip push the arm towards port and the upper linkage should disconnect.

THANKS! Finally got it . took a little more effort on the linkage then I thought should have been necessary...but it's off.
