Looking to add a kicker to a 17' fiberglass bass boat. Boat's main outboard is 150hp. I use the boat on inland lakes only. I estimate the boat to weigh approximately 1500 lbs. What do you guys think would be the minimum hp I could use (and still move around) on this set-up.

I have an older 4hp Merc laying around, and was wondering if it'd even be worth my while to try, or should I start looking for higher hp motors.

Thanks!

4 hp should be fine... most of my friends use their trolling motor as their "kicker"...

4 merc would do good. but a 4 rude would do better, just a rude guy.

Yeah, I hear 'ya! Can't discriminate too much since she's just sitting in the garage. As for the trolling motor goes, I wanted something a bit more powerful (and something that didn't run solely on a battery) to push me around on limited horsepower lakes.
