What's the status of Johnson vs Evinrude?

Once upon a time, Johnson and Evinrude were completely different. Then OMC came along and they were mostly the same. Towards the end of OMC, the line was split somewhat. First by reserving most of the new technology to Evinrude and old technology stayed with Johnson. Next, Evinrudes became 4-strokes (Suzuki) and Fichts and Johnsons still remained 2-strokes and Fichts. Not completely across the board, but trendwise. That's about where I lose track.

With BRP at the helm, where is this going? How about BRP's future with Suzuki?

I'm no expert but::
I think you took a wrong turn somewhere.Way back 20s,30s and 40s Evinrude Johnson were different designs.In the early 50s They gradually became pretty much identical.Except for cosmetics.Now Evinrude is 2 stroke with the very good Etec line.It appears johnson is 4 stroke for now apparently using Suzuki.Pretty sure Fichts is gone.
My personal feeling is unless the Johnson 4 strokes have a real strong following they will disappear.
I don't see any reason to continue the Johnson line other than to distinguish between the 2 stroke and 4 stroke technology.
After all the Oldsmobile is gone(dates back to the 1890s)And Plymouth is gone(dates to the 1920s)In recent years these both shared components with the some of the other lines produced by their parent companies.
