What's this hose from lower unit? 80hp Merc 1980

Hi all, new to boats but I've worked on cars. Inherited a boat with an 80 hp Merc circa 1980 or so. I want to get it started today, hasn't been run in a couple years at least. I saw this capped off hose coming out of the lower unit. What is it and where does it connect?

its a connection for speedometer
