I have a 73 1150 merc and in the middle of the carbs there is a black round thing with two arms holding it in place... What is it cause my bottom carb is missing it and I don't know what it is ... Any info and where I can find one would be great
Thanks

I think you are talking about the venturi.

It is probably essential to good operation. You should be able to get one from a salvage yard.

Yes you do need the venturi, it acts to create a pressure drop that sucks up fuel from the carb bowl. It's called, oddly enough, the "venturi effect."

EDIT: when you do get one, make sure it is installed correctly (as shown in the pic); if put in backwards it won't work properly.

Maybe a previous owner/mechanic was cleaning the carbs and left it out?...You could get one off an old motor if you can find one!
