Good morning iBoat-ers. I'm afraid I already know the answer, but I'm going to ask anyway:

What's the purpose of the thick rubber washer on the outside of my water pump? I got the whole **** engine put back together only to realize that I forgot the washer. (shown in the pic attached)

Planning on enjoying a few adult beverages this evening and going fishing tomorrow, so really hoping I don't have to rip the foot off again...

Thanks again!

It is a slinger and serves 2 functions...1) it helps by keeping water from climbing driveshaft at idle 2) it helps keep exhaust gases from entering top of impeller housing at speed.

up to you but... there is very, very little exhaust in that part of down housing ona "production" motor.. water movin' "up" is also very small at idle.. it should be jus fine till ya replace tha water pump again.. most "hot rod" guys leave it out at tha get go because of tha chance of it meltin' with exhaust modifications....

ever "notice one" on gear case's advertised for sale??
