Hey guys!

I picked up a boat a few weeks ago with no engine, so I recently purchased an engine , installed it and its mostly installed.

there are a total of 3 wires, I have not connected yet.

2 of which I am 99% sure is the Stern drive Limit switch or the trim sender in the picture its the black wire I havent done anything with.

But my question is, there is a PINK wire with a blue stripe ( or it could be white, or flesh tone) with an loop crimped on it, but I have no idea where it goes.

because I am not sure of the color, the schematic has me running around.

Does anyone recognize it? know where it goes?

please and thanks to anyone who can direct me :)

Nope... No Picture. Post it to a hosting site (like photobucket) and post the link here, it's much easier.

It works... That looks like part of the boat harness more than the engine. But the colour suggests it might be part of an alarm system, water temp or oil pressure... :noidea: Where does it go to at the other end?

I think maybe it's part of the trim sender to gauge

Edit: or mercathod

I am definitely going to trace it back tonight to see where it goes, I tried last night but it was dark.

there are 4 wires coming off the outdrive, about 12 gauge, this lone wire is probably 20 , maybe 22 gauge.

of the 4 black wires, 2 disappear off into the harness, and 2 are cut. but then there are 2 cut and spliced on the end which I believe to be the limit switch.

Then there is this other wire. which I will be on the hunt for.

The ones which come out of the outdrive are trim limit and trim gauge wires.

Ok so after much digging and rain, I traced the wire back to some kind of a buZer. Buzzer is labeled Delta-larm. And it looks like it's fed by a second wire, not sure if it's it's live or a ground , I couldn't see much without taking the dash apart. So obviously an alarm, but I still don't see where the wire should go Anyone have insight on this further investigation? Thanks bunch

Is it one single tan/blue wire from the horn to the engine?

What year is the boat? Engine and drive model?

It may be an early style warning buzzer like seen on page 4E-9. http://www.boatfix.com/merc/Servmanl/16/16E4R2.PDF

Is there a tan/blue wire on the 10 pin cannon plug?

Do you have a tan/blue wire going to the oil and water temp switch?

Do you have a stern drive gear lube monitor bottle with wires going to it? < Can't see it in your photos if you do or not.

Yup , thats the wire.

boat is a 1987 - 1900 Edson, mercruiser 4.3L
I recently learned that the engine previously was the 200hp version, but I purchased a used 175hp version of the 4.3
I dont have access to the original engine block, thats long gone.

This is it exactly, right down to the cable tie.

I havent looked, this I will do after work.

I didnt see one, or a hole in the boat that the hose would come out. so I am going to say not.

I will look around for a preasure switch and or temp switch. but since this is a new engine, it might not be equipped.

When I first saw the pictures I thought that wire looked tan/blue, but you had said that it was pink... Which is why I asked where the wire ran. If it is actually tan and not pink, then that is consistent with it being for a warning system, but usually we only see that wire as part of the engine harness. The other section (running from the engine to the dash buzzer) is usually inside a single black sheathed loom. If it is indeed a warning buzzer wire the usual setup is that the sensors on the engine (oil pressure, water temperature and drive oil bottle switch) will switch to ground. The buzzer at the dash end should have power on one side and this tan/blue on the other.

Oh, and one more thing. The only difference between the 175 and the 205 is the intake and carb, nothing else, even the cam is the same. So if down the track you want to increase to 205hp, just change the intake to a 4 bbl, and drop an Edlebrock 1409 on.... :D

HTH,

Chris........

Ok so I spent about 25 minutes looking around, but found nothing that screamed for a wire. So I am going to for now just assume it's something left over from the old engine I did notice there is a tan/blue stripe wire going into the harness, but I didn't see one coming out of the harness, I will trace to see which pin goes where later. There is a blue wire on the oil pressure sending unit, I never saw a temp gauge though. Thanks all for help, I feel I know more because of the help Thanks again. Menglor

The blue wire is for the oil pressure sender (for the gauge), not an oil pressure switch, which is for the alarm....

The tan with blue stripe wire needs to tie into the water temperature switch and the oil pressure switch.
