Whats under the carpet?

I have a 1981 Lund fiberglass runabout and need to replace one of the lounge type seats so I'm wondering whats under the carpet. The old one had a couple of wood screws holding it down so I would assume that there is a layer of plywood between the carpet and fiberglass ribs. Can I figure on 3/4" plywood and using some large coarse sheetmetal screws or lags through the new seat? It is a Wyse with plastic base and large, 1/4" diam. slotted holes for mounting. Thanks for any help.

Re: Whats under the carpet?

I doubt it's 3/4" ply wood, probably 1/2".
Should be from hull floor to top, stringers>plywood>fiberglass>carpet

Keep in mind the curve of the hull......
I replaced my floor, carpet and seat bases, I used 1" stainless steel screws, made my own seat bases (seats were good, bases were shot) used 1x sticks for the cross braces and to mount the seats in the boat. Counter sunk the holes, and apparently went to far on the outside of port side.... the tips of the screws went through the bottom of the hull, just ever so barely breaking the gel coat and poking through.... I was not happy.... LOL
